Role

Murphy’s on the Water, Halifax's premier waterfront attraction, has an immediate opportunity for a full-time seasonal server at its waterfront operations.

Murphy’s sailing season will be operating June to October. We will be offering signature events as well as specialty wine, beer and cider tours.

Your role is to delight our customers through your sincere desire to create a memorable experience for them through your service, knowledge, and delivery of our products.



Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide timely/attentive service to patrons
· Suggest complementary items to their meal, boost check averages
· Make sure their section is in pristine condition from clear tables to swept floors
· Ability to manage a full busy section with high quality customer service independently
· Taking payments and handling all cash flow from their customers
· Ongoing stocking of supplies
· In slow times complete a list of cleaning duties
· End of shift cleaning duties
· End of shift cash outs
Responsibilities

Customers

• Greet guests with assigned greeting; develop a rapport with guests by introducing yourself and being clearly focused on them
• Learn, understand, and share menu details with guests, matching guests to their interests and up-selling where possible.
• Follow the standard core procedures of service
• Take beverage and food orders accurately; deliver beverages and food in a timely manner
• Deliver plates to table according to the company’s service standards
• Consistently meet and exceed the company’s philosophy for customer service excellence
• Accept customer feedback with thanks
• Know the city, be prepared to offer light travel advice
• Be knowledgeable about our other company departments, tours and offers. Be prepared to offer advice or recommendations on these to guests
• Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Facilities

• Always keep service stations clean and tidy
• Maintain a high level of table maintenance by removing dirty dishes, cutlery, glassware, and un-needed items from tables promptly. and workstations (never return to kitchen or busing station empty-handed)
• Between seatings, promptly clean table tops and chairs . Check floor and clean as required. Reset and arranges tabletop to standards.
• Clear and sanitize tables in a timely manner
• Set/Move tables as requested
• Assist with banquet set-ups and tear-downs
• Complete daily and weekly duties of cleaning and organization of service stations, stocking and prepping supplies, as well as extra duties assigned by Supervisor or Manager



Skills
Qualifications for Servers

Experience

• Customer service experience (minimum 2 years)
• Serving experience (minimum 2 year)
• Hospitality studies or experience in the industry
• Bartending experience would be considered an asset.


Skills

· Professional manner and appearance
· Fit and physically capable of carrying heavy trays, bus pans, supplies
· Prepared to be on your feet and moving for eight-hour shift
· Quick, efficient, organized and enjoy working under time pressures
· Able to identify and resolve issues as they arise
· Clean, with good hygiene habits
· Coordinated and efficient, good time management
· Good observation skills, attention to detail
· Have strong service skills and ability to manage a full busy section independently
· Able to work independently and also as an integrated team member
Friendly, customer-focused personality
· Positive upbeat attitude and demeanour with other team members

Working Conditions

· Required to wear the company uniform including face mask
· Non-standard hours of work, including early mornings, evenings, late nights, and weekends
· Fluctuations of shifts and schedule based on group/event/tour changes or cancellations. Weather dependency.
