Accessibility and inclusion in arts and culture: Are these issues that interest you? Do you enjoy website design? Are you comfortable working across social media platforms? If you said “yes,” then Strategic Arts Management (SAM) may be looking for you!
SAM is a not-for-profit arts management service organization offering mentorship, management, administration, and other resources to artists and arts organizations in Nova Scotia at affordable, subsidized rates. We’re seeking someone to fill the position of Digital Accessibility Editor for a 9-week work term.

The work term is July 5–September 2, 2021, and flexible scheduling is available. Since the physical SAM office is closed due to COVID-19, you will need access to a computer and stable internet connection to take part in online staff meetings and complete the work.
As our digital accessibility editor, you’ll review SAM’s online presence for accessibility and equitable thinking. This will include incorporating descriptive headings and links, adding alternative text to images, reviewing formatting and layout, reviewing graphics and text for inclusive language and representation, incorporating closed/open captioning on video files, and completing all associated website edits through WordPress. Familiarity and/or experience with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 and/or the Nova Scotia Accessibility Act are considered an asset but not a requirement.
You will have the opportunity to design and implement strategic tools to increase access, representation, and equity across the SAM digital platforms. The impact of your work in this role will be high. SAM relies heavily on our online presence to connect our clients and consultants, including our website, social media platforms, and e-communications.

Other Information
SAM recognizes the value of diverse lived experiences, perspectives, and talents. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds and levels of education to apply. We will be prioritizing applications from those who self-identify as a member of the IBPOC, 2SLGBTQQIA+, disability, or other under-represented community. Your experience, intersectionality, and perspective are considered an asset to this role.
This position is partly funded by Canada Summer Jobs. As part of the funding agreement, applicants need to be under 30 years of age; a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred; have a valid Social Insurance Number; and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
If you think this position is for you, please send a short letter telling us about yourself and why you’re interested in this role, along with your resume, to by 11:59 pm ADT on June 6, 2021, with the subject line DIGITAL ACCESSIBILITY EDITOR.
We thank all applicants for their interest, although only those asked for an interview will be contacted. Interviews will be held through a virtual format and are expected to take place on June 14, 2021.
