Description
The Program Assistant position is a paid mentorship opportunity for an individual between the ages of 19-30 who is interested in learning more about artist-run centres, arts administration, curating, installation, event coordinating, all with care and collaboration. The individual will gain experience working directly alongside the Khyber's Co-Directors, a fellow Program Assistant, Board of Directors (BoD), contract staff, and exhibiting artists. They will assist with the Summer residency and exhibition, archiving, and promotions, while also designing and accommodating a membership drive. This position will be work-from-home in June, and if safety and regulations allow, will be a combination of work-from-home and in-person at the centre over July.


Responsibilities
TASKS
? Attending relevant committee meetings and events with Khyber staff, BoD, artists, and partners primarily using Zoom.
? Co-organizing online membership outreach initiatives such as a raffle, auction, and/or creation and sale of new merch.
? Developing and pursuing outreach plans for new membership, fundraising, partners, and expanding digital access, while keeping member and donor lists updated (use of Excel and G Suite).
? Distributing promotional material and daily use of Khyber social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, WordPress)
? Editing video from past events and workshops and sharing on Khyber platforms (YouTube, WordPress)
? Handling, and recording sales and shipments of Khyber shop inventory.
? Distributing an online form and printed questionnaire for public consultation to be circulated and approved by committee members, as well as keeping a record of statistical and contact information for measuring outreach (Google Forms).

? Maintaining a clean and organized work environment (e.g. filing, sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing, taking out garbage/recyclables, reorganizing storage of tools and equipment).
? Working safely following COVID-19 procedure with other staff to oversee gallery during open hours or appointments. This involves making sure visitors sign in, complete the entry survey, and adhere to health and safety protocols.
? Sorting and selecting creative works, documents, and objects from our membership and archives to be featured on social media and delivered to our permanent archives.

Skills
Individuals must be between 19 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment and must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
The Khyber does not require the individual to be a student or to have any previous experience working for not-for-profit organizations, artist-run centres or galleries, however prioritizes applications from artists and the interview and hiring of those who are IBPOC and/or LGBTQ2S+. Assets to this position include: knowledge of or interest in art, music and artist-run culture and/or background in community organizing, digital programming and competency, social media and website suaveness, fundraising and/or outreach, installation, design, photography and/or video editing

ACCESS AND POTENTIAL BARRIERS
Program Assistants will have access to the internet in a work-from-home environment. We will be co-working using Zoom as a platform, and much of the work will be taking place online and in front of a screen. If needed, laptops can be provided, but those available to the centre are only sufficient for basic tasks and not optimal. If you do not have access to the internet or a computer, we still encourage you to apply and will work with you to accommodate working realities.
If health and safety regulations permit, work for this position will also take place at 1880 Hollis St. (see map). The main entrance to the centre is up 2-steps from the sidewalk, however, the mall entrance further down the block on Hollis St. can be used for ground-level entry. There is a ground-level all genders wheelchair-accessible washroom and gender-neutral washroom stalls on site. Lifting and physical labour tasks described above in TASKS can be assumed by other Khyber staff members. The two directors working alongside employees in this position speak and write fluently in English language only.
