We are looking for someone who is ready to lead and build the organization in partnership with the General Manager.

Responsibilities
The Artistic Director reports to the Board of Directors and works in partnership with the General Manager.

The Artistic Director holds primary responsibility for:
Creating and pursuing the artistic vision for the company
Seeking out artists, planning seasons, and facilitating the artistic vision of each production and program, perhaps in the role of director, dramaturge, or producer
Keeping abreast of local, regional, and national artistic activity (including attending local productions and maintaining active membership in Theatre Nova Scotia and the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres)
Acting as a spokesperson for the organization
Writing key materials for a range of audiences, including grant applications, sponsorship packages, and press releases

And works in partnership with the General Manager to:
Develop outreach programs, such as the playwrights unit and workshops
Create budgets for activities and the season as a whole
Hold responsibility for the organization’s financial health
Seek out public funding opportunities and build relationships with program officers
Seek out foundation and sponsorship opportunities and foster relationships with these stakeholders
Lead donations campaign and maintain relationships with donors
Report regularly to the Board of Directors and attend board and committee meetings as required
Implement communications plan with support from the communications committee
Build the organization’s activity and reach.

Skills

The successful candidate must possess:
A regionally recognized professional artistic practice (e.g. in directing or dramaturgy)
Proven leadership skills
Collaborative spirit
Deep knowledge of the regional theatre community
Strong communication skills (writing, speaking, and listening)
Strong interpersonal skills
Critical and strategic thinking skills
Financial acumen

Other Information
Eastern Front Theatre is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This position requires deep community engagement.

Compensation
$32 000 per year for full time work eight months of the year or the equivalent part time year round. The Artistic Director is expected to build their schedule around EFT’s key activities and coordinate time away from the company with the General Manager and the Board. Potential directorial fees would be paid in addition to the base salary.
