Description
The Alternate Format Technician is responsible for producing alternate format materials for students who are blind or visually impaired. This includes transcribing/proofreading braille and e-text as well as the creation and proofreading of tactile diagrams. Production covers all texts and supplementary materials for students who are blind or visually impaired in public schools in Atlantic Canada.

THIS POSITION WILL INTEREST YOU IF:
? You want to be part of a team dedicated to the goal of equitable access for students who are blind or visually impaired.
? You are resourceful in your approach and will use this to produce print and illustrative media in a way that is meaningful to students who are blind or visually impaired.
? You have an aptitude for learning and applying design principles that are specific to tactile diagrams.
REQUIREMENTS:
? Minimum of Grade XII. Completion of a post-secondary secretarial/office administration program considered an asset.
? Certified through CNIB in Unified English Braille (UEB) Transcription. If not certified, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to complete the training, within a specified timeframe.
? Excellent typing skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word.
? Superior knowledge of grammar and vocabulary and the ability to proofread and edit.
? Working knowledge and experience with graphics editor software programs and conversion software programs. If necessary, training will be provided.
? Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating System.
? Ability and aptitude for learning new skills and technology.
? Willingness to engage in professional development to remain knowledgeable in emerging trends, programs and materials in the field.
? Ability to work efficiently, producing high quality, accurate material within deadlines.
? Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team.
ASSETS:
? Proficiency in Math and/or Music
? Bilingual — French/English

Other Information
Offer of employment is conditional upon the completion of all applicable background checks and confirmation of credentials, the results of which must be satisfactory to APSEA or employment will be terminated.
SALARY: In accordance with the APSEA/NSGEU Agreement.
TERM: Permanent, full-time position effective immediately.
